Twitter - is it really necessary?

Once apon a time it was uncool to be called a follower, but today with the advent of Twitter more and more people want to be 'sheep' and follow anyone and anything.

Some random things to follow include:
Mistakes men make (apparently for men who don't make any), alittlepregnant ( dare I say from a pregnant woman), magazinemonday (someone's favorite magazines for the week) and of course we can't forget  individual people or should I say celebrities and non celebrities. Which brings me to this:

Do people really want to know what Charlie Sheen ate for breakfast? Or is the real question did Charlie Sheen actually have Weet-bix or did someone else have Weet-bix but is payed by Charlie Sheen to say Charlie Sheen had Weet-bix? Well I can almost answer this question about if someone wrote it for him and who they are - at least one of the writers anyway. According to the UKs Daily Mirror a Belfast student named Jonny Campbell will be 'tweeting' for Sheen for the next 8 weeks. (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/03/30) Obviously Sheen is too busy living his life so doesn't have the time to tell people on Twitter how wonderful it is. He is only an example of this phenomenon of having someone else write 'their' 140 characters to 'their' thousands of followers.

So who on Twitter is doing their own Tweetting? Does it really matter? Are peoples lives really enriched by Twitter? Most would assume that celebrities make up the bulk of the tweets and tweeters on Twitter. (try saying that fast!) Jill Duffy(2011) in PCMag online outlines a recent study that shows most tweets actually belong to bloggers who then follow tweets by passing on information via other new media formats such as facebook, blogs, youtube and email. These tweeters actually are only 0.05 percent of the Twitter community yet produce almost half of all Tweets. To read the full article please click:

As you can probably tell I don't think Twitter has a function in the real world, if your life really is that great then:
                   GO LIVE IT
                         AND
STOP TELLING EVERYONE HOW GREAT IT IS!

I am now going to log onto Facebook and see who of my 'friends' has a more exciting life than mine................

Bye for now
